Oh Happy Day

scrapbook layout, scrapbooking

When I sat down to design a scrapbook layout for this photo I just could not get the sound of an old church choir singing joyfully, “Oh Happy Day!” I guess it was the look of joy in my son’s face that evoked the memories of this song that gave way to this page’s title. He was playing at a local park and being messy, getting dirty and scaring me to death on the playground equipment. I am always afraid that he is going to fall off and break something or plummet to his death, but he always manages to have a good time despite mommy yelling be careful every 2.3 minutes. He obviously had a good time despite my nagging as witnessed in this photograph. I knew that I wanted to go with bold colors, but I didn’t want to distract so much so that you lose sight of the main focus. I ended up using all papers from Fancy Pants Designs – The Good Life Collection with the exception of the Red Glitter Paper from The Paper Studio. I utilized the black and white striped as a border around the entire page. The general background was a light grey polka dot which added just enough detail to not be boring, but not so much that it would be over kill and super busy. I then mounted my photo onto a  robins egg cracked finish paper. Using several various printed papers I cut out little banners and staggered them under the photo. On top of the banners I placed a Calendar Ticket Tag from 7Gypsies to mark some identifiable info such as place and time of the photograph. Using my Cricut, I cut out the words “oh” and “day” using Calligraphy Collection Inspiration Blackout font. I cut out the word “happy” using the Cindy Loo cartridge. The stars were punched out of the red glitter paper using a paper punch from EK Success. The Wave at the top was hand folded and bent and ironed to create a ripple effect with the chevron print paper.
